SAURABH SINGH

I am Saurabh Kumar Singh—a father whose life was forever transformed by a single diagnosis. When my two-year-old son, Shaurya, was diagnosed with Hunter Syndrome (MPS-II)—a rare, incurable disease—my world did not just change, it shattered. In one moment, hope was replaced by uncertainty, and the future I had imagined for my child disappeared into silence. There was no clear treatment, no roadmap, and no system ready to support us—only questions, fear, and an overwhelming sense of helplessness. For days, I could not move forward. I stood still, broken by the weight of a reality no parent should ever have to face. But then, something within me refused to accept defeat. I realized that if I remained silent, my child’s story would remain unheard. And so, I chose to rise. I began fighting—not because I was strong, but because I had no other choice. I wrote endlessly—to authorities, to policymakers, to anyone who might listen. I reached out to pharmaceutical companies, appealed for help, and searched for answers where none seemed to exist. I knocked on doors that never opened, and still, I kept knocking. What started as a father’s desperate fight for his son soon became something far greater. I discovered that I was not alone. There were thousands of children and families, just like mine, silently enduring rare diseases—fighting battles without recognition, without resources, and often without hope. Their pain became my purpose. My grief turned into a movement. One day, Shaurya left us forever. But in that final moment, his face was calm… and he was smiling. It was not a moment of defeat—it was a moment that felt beyond words. His eyes spoke to me, carrying a silent message, a responsibility, a promise. It was as if he was telling me to continue the fight—not just for him, but for every child battling a rare disease. That day, I did not just lose my son. I found my purpose. Today, my journey is no longer just personal—it is about every child who deserves a chance to live, every parent who refuses to give up, and every voice that must be heard. Through advocacy, awareness, and relentless effort, I continue to fight for systemic change, access to treatment, and dignity for rare disease patients across the nation. My memoir, Shaurya: A Father’s Promise, is not just a book. It is my truth. It is the story of a child who endured with courage, and a father who refused to surrender. It is a promise—that no matter how dark the path becomes, I will continue to fight. Because this is not just my story. This is a fight for life.
